Poppies ...

... mean a lot to me.

My grandfather was in WWI. He came home. Aunts and uncles were in the forces in WWII. They survived. My dad helped to liberate France, went on in to Belgium and Holland, and his Regiment was one of the first in to Belsen. He came home. My brother-in-law was awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal after the Falklands War. My dad died 34 years ago tomorrow, 12 November. It was a Monday, the day after Remembrance Sunday. Two days before Princess Anne's first marriage, six months before my daughter was born.

Poppies mean a lot to me too. I count myself lucky that every member of my family that fought in WW2 came home safely. Yesterday I was at the church service in my Mums village. It was very moving as they read out the names of those in the village who had died both wars. I was thinking of the two people I know who are spending time out in Afganistan.
Thinking of you today as you remember your Dad. xx

Very moving tribute Sue.
Maybe my father met yours in Belgium where he met my mother during the war. My father was in the Royal SIgnals.

What a loving tribute to your dad! Poppies mean alot to my family, too. We have veterans in my family who have since passed away. My Dad is a veteran (I called him on our Veteran's Day to give him a "Thank you!") and my cousin is currently serving in Baghdad (whom I pray for constantly).
